2020年3月から、毎週日曜日の夜にYouTubeに
アップされた即興演奏のプロジェクトが一枚のCDに。
音と共に上柿さんのメッセージやドローイング、
写真も織り交ぜられたブックレットになりました。

piano improvisation by Eriko Uegaki on every
Sunday night since March 2020 during lockdown
recorded on a CD.
I bound a booklet with her message, drawings, photos
and a CD on a back cover.

風合いのあるグレーの表紙に、グレーの麻糸で
綴じています。
CDは最後のページに斜めの切り込みを入れて
収めました。

I bound with grey linen thread for the soft textured
grey cover paper and insert a CD with a diagonal
slit on the last page.

今年の手帳は淡いピンクと水色を表紙に、
これまではカレンダー形式だったのを、
yさんのをまねて横書きのレイアウトに
しています。

今年最初に書き込んだ予定は延期になってしまいましたが（ ; ; ）
たのしみが延びただけですよなんて嬉しいメッセージをいただいて
こころがあたたかくなりました。ありがとうございます。
今年も粛々と本づくりに励みたいと思います。

the workshop in Tokyo has been postponed again but I was relieved
to hear from my student's mail that said I'm saving that pleasure for the next!

手帳には前年集めた紙を綴じ込んでいます。
5年ぶり？くらいに訪れたともすけさん、
変わらずしみじみおいしいごはんをいただいた
その日のメニュー（玉ねぎのピュレに
感動しました）も入れています。

Bound with some papers I've been collecting included in a menu
paper at restaurant Tomosuke. It was a first time in more than
five years and it was so good as always.

仕事でやり取りした荷物が包まれていた
ムーミンの刷り出しも。活字での印刷に
奮闘するムーミンにほっこりします。
空白のページが多かった去年を振り返りながら、
おろしたての日々が少しでも彩られますように。

Also bound with moomin pages which used as
a wrapping paper.
I hope we could fill out colorful days on your diary.

ワークショップで教えている小さな蛇腹の本。
2008年に教室を始めて以来ずっと教えているもの、
一枚の紙を折って端と端を背で留めて14ページの本に
なります。

a small accordion book folded a long piece of paper becomes
14 pages which I've been teaching at my workshop since 2004.

大阪にあるアトリエひこの石崎史子さんにこのサンプルを
送ったらこんなすてきな作品集が届きました。
折ってある紙に描くことも、描いたものを折ることも、
ひこのみんなは面白がってくれているようで、
いつか「アトリエの作品を折る」展をしたいなと話しています。

子供の頃から家族で通っている地元の中華料理屋さん
のメニューを作りました。
道路拡張のため前より少し移動して、お店もあたらしく
なりました。

Made a menu book for a Chinese restaurant 'Yaoytoyo'.
I've been there since I was a kid with my family.

メニューはランチとディナーのサイズ違いの2種類。
どちらも表紙に金の箔押しで店名を、ディナーメニューは
メニューが変わった時にも変更できるように綴じ込まず
紐で通しています。

やさしい味の町中華。
わたしのおすすめはチャーハン、
餃子、五目ラーメンです。
豊田に行かれることがあればぜひ。

fried rice, fried dumplings and ramen is my favorite dish,
try going there when you visit Toyota.

高松市にあるplus 106のためにワークショップでも教えている
製本、'interlocking tab album' でノートをつくりました。
表紙には庭や歩いているときに拾った落ち葉を、
中はブランクのノートです。

Found fallen leaves on the front cover and blank inside.

この製本は糸を使わずにそれぞれのページに耳を作り
それを互い違いに組み合わせて綴じられています。
ページは袋状になっているので、フレームをつくって
紙のコレクションや落ち葉を挟むのもよいかなと思います。

This book structure is interlocked with the tabs of each page,
and all pages are double-leaved.
This will help you to organize frames of pictures, which will be made from provided samples of collected papers,
dried flowers and leaves.

limp binding(リンプ製本)は16世紀以前に用いられていた
技法で、その時代は羊皮などの動物の皮を表紙に用いて
いました。
表紙に厚紙を用いない柔らかい表紙の製本のひとつで、
ワークショップでも教えています。その中でもさまざまな
バリエーションのあるロングステッチ製本でノートを
つくりました。

Limp bindings which have a flexible cover consists of a single
piece that wraps around the book block. It used flexible cloth,
leather or vellum for the cover was produced at least as early
as the 14th century and probably earlier.
I've been teaching this technique at my workshop and I made
sample notebooks using my friend's kids drawing for the cover.

展示会に来ていただく方のための芳名帳。
箱入りで、白っぽくということでこの形になりました。

a white guest book in a white slip case ordered by
TORICI.

いろんな白い紙を綴じこんでいます。
しろーいノートなので、一つポイントにピンクの糸を
使いました。

bound various types of white papers with fishing line and
pink line on the edge.

糊を使わない製本なのでとても開きがよいのが
特徴です。

It’s non-adhesive binding so ittopens very flat,
and it’s nice to write in.

'diary book for 2020'

2003年からつくり始めた手帳。自分のためにとつくり始めたものが
いつしかオーダーを受けるようになってもう15年が経ちました。
列帖装の製本を元に、釣り糸を用いて綴じるこの製本はヴェロニカさん
のところで働いていたときに教えてもらったもの。ページには集めて
いた包装紙やDMなどを挟み込んで綴じています。オーダーを受け始め
てから、依頼者の好きなサイズ、デザイン、そして好きな紙も入れ
込んで作っています。

I started making my diary using a binding technique influenced
by Veronika’s work. It’s a Japanese traditional ”retch so” binding
using fishing line. It opens very flat, and the fishing line is hardly
visible, and it’s nice to write in. The text blocks come from
the papers I collect throughout the year : wrapping paper,
exhibition fliers, etc.
At first I made it for myself, but then my friends asked me to
make some for them, so eventually I started taking orders in 2004.

表紙の紙もそれぞれ異なります。sちゃんのは薄いグレーの紙を
表に、裏は羊毛を漉き込んだ羊毛紙を使っています。

I chose the papers for my friend who is pattern maker for
a fashion brand.

一年半分のカレンダーを最初に載せています。

one and a half year calendar on the second page.

見開きひと月のカレンダーは、月曜始まり、日曜始まり、
英語、フランス語、ドイツ語表記などさまざまです。

monthly calendar on the facing page, starting from Monday
or Sunday, in English, French German...etc and options
can be added upon request.

表紙には今年の夏の終わり、庭で咲いていた百日紅の
花を施しました。

十和田現代美術館での展覧会、『遠くからでも見える人　
森北伸 展　絵画と彫刻』のためのオリジナルノートブック。

Original drawing notebook for the exhibition at Towada
Art Center in Aomori prefecture in Japan.

高校生のときからお世話になっている彫刻家の伸ちゃん、
アトリエで選んだドローイングは どこを切り取っても
伸ちゃんらしさがあって、どこにもないオリジナルな
ノートブックに仕上がりました

We've been knowing each other since I was teenager,
so it's honored to be able to work with him.
I picked up different original drawings for each notebooks,
but it shows himself whichever of them I chose!

展覧会のための芳名帳。格子柄のフランスの古い紙を本文にして、
糸綴じをしています。観音折りにした表紙と背をつないだ製本、
スイスにいたときにBenjaminに習った綴じ方です。

using french old plaid paper and bound with linen thread.
unique binding which I've learned from Benjamin who is
my classmate in Ascona.

くるみ製本と異なり、表と裏、背にそれぞれ違う布を用いることが
できます。開きもよいので書き込むのに適した製本です。

it's different from case binding, so I chose different clothes for both side
of the covers and the back. it opens flat and nice to write in.

名古屋、国際センターにあるケーキ屋さん、
nokos à l'étage のためのメニュー。
季節のフルーツを味わうことのできるケーキは、
毎日メニューが変わるため、毎朝の仕込みの後に
nokoさんが書いて完成です。
15年ほど前に製本留学していたパリのアトリエから
持ち帰った麻のクロスを表紙に、手書きのロゴを
版にして、箔押ししています。

A menu book for nokos à l'étage, patisserie in Nagoya.
Chef writes a seasonal daily pastry and put into
the menu book before the shop opens every morning.
White linen cloth for the cover which I brought back
from Paris about fifteen years ago when I was studying
bookbinding.

『Circle』の展覧会は、circle gallery & booksを主宰する
丸山さんにお誘いいただいて、2014年7月に実現しました。
本のタイトル も『Circle』、いろいろな縁がかさなって、
ぐるりぐるりと世界をめぐってこの本ができました。

we had 'Circle' exhibition at circle gallery & books in July 2014,
were asked by the owner to have a exhibition and it happened
to us to make 'Circle' book.

表紙にはアーカイバルボードを使っています。フィラデルフィアの
Hediを訪れたときに彼女のクラスで使用したのがきっかけです。
ページを開くにはゴム状の素材でなければ、でもあまり目立っても
いけないし。そうだ、シリコンのチューブはどうだろう。
穴のサイズにもぴったり。ぐるりと通して中身とつないで、結びます。

Binding with a elastic silicone tube to thread into the archival
corrugated boards and sections. and then, I made knots on both ends.
It helps to open the page easily and which has also circler section.

熱田神宮の参道で拾い集めた落葉を本に。
紅や黄色に色づいていた葉の色、消えてなくなる前に
本に仕立てる。あの日の空の色みたいな紙に。

I lost autumn colour of leaves which I picked up at
Atsuta Shrine in my pocket, so that I bound them
not to lose anymore.

丸穴から覗き込むと何処かの街の地図があらわれます。
何処かにありそうで何処にもない街に、
ページをめくるたびに迷い込んでしまいそう。
袋ページを平綴じ、表紙を包み込んで
マッチケースのような仕様、最後のページには
ひとつひとつ異なるちいさな版画が入っています。

First Nakaban drew the birds-eye view map and then he took
a long look at it as if it were a guide book to a strange country.
Then he 'stood' at various points on the map and saw the scenes
of his journey and started writing the story.

The cover has yellow foil tooling on two-sided (olive green outside
and brown inside) paper. There is a small linocut print
on the last page; each one is slightly different.

'Anton Boek'

オランダの起業家、Antonのためにその家族、友人が贈る本の
プロジェクト。
世界中を旅することが好きな彼に、これまでに旅をした土地の
作家たちと協力して29冊の本を完成させました。

29 books as a homage to Anton who loves traveling
around the world. his friends and family wanted to make
a precious object for him, one for each person.

日本で選んだ紙で製本、スペインのカリグラファーがテキストを描き、
アムステルダムで最後の仕上げをし、オランダの作家の箱に
すべてを納める。
彼と同じように本も旅をして彼の手に渡りました。

bound with different cover paper in Japan, texts by Spanish
calligrapher in Barcelona, finished and stored in a wooden box
made in Holland.
books traveled around the world and finally handed to him.

Hediに教わった、糸を用いないで綴じるアルバム製本で
つくった月のコラージュの本。
ノートや手帖を綴じるときに出る紙片が10年くらいで3本の
ガラス瓶いっぱいに。その欠片をアルバムに挟み込んだ。
その間、何度月が満ちては欠けたのだろう。
今夜も月がきれい。

この製本をヴェロニカさんに教わってから自分なりのアレンジを
加えてつくり始めた手帖。2004年からはオーダーまで受けるように
なりました。自分が製本家としてどんな風に仕事をしていったら
よいのかわからなかった頃から、頼んでくださる方々のおかげで
細々とだけれどいまも続いています。一冊ずつつくるのがたのしくて、
書き込んでいるのを見るとちょっと恥ずかしいけどうれしくて。
だから続いているのかな。

I start taking orders for diary books since 2004. I've learnt this
binding technique from Veronika when I worked with her in Tokyo.
I had no idea how to live as a freelance bookbinder at that time,
but since then I've been making diaries for my clients for such
a long time thanks to them.

依頼で制作。月にむかって生けた花の写真と、石田さんのことばが
一冊のながいながい蛇腹の本に。
製本は蛇腹折り、それぞれのページの折り目に半紙を糸で綴じています。

Norika Ishida. he arranged the flowers everyday from
new moon to full moon, and she wrote the text inspired by it.

スイス留学中につくった作品。
ポストカードサイズの小さな本、製本を初めて学んだ
パリの古本市で見つけたもの。天地と四つ角に革を
あしらって、タイトルも自分でつけました。
