何年か前のと、そのまた何年か前の芳名帳を
箱に納めました。

made a box for the guest books which I made
few years ago.

表紙は穴があいてつぎはぎされた布、
それらもそのまた何十年も前から
受け継がれてきたもの。

clothes that are old, worn-out, and covered
with patches has been passed down for generations.

10.27-11.08 に銀座の森岡書店で開催された
彗星菓子手製所さんの本の出版記念のために
特装の箱をつくりました。
ひとつは作者に、簡易版を予約販売しました。

made special boxes for a book by Suiseikashi Teseisho.
at book launch exhibition at Moriokashoten 10.27-11.08

本の刷り出しをいただいたので、箱の底に
本の1ページを貼っています。

used a waste page from the publishing company
on the bottom of the box.

和菓子に使われた白小豆の鞘と豆を小さな箱に。

蓋付きの箱には蕗の薹の砂糖漬けが入っています。

淡い白い箱に詰め込みました。

長野市の夏至さんでの箱の展覧会。
12名の異なる素材でつくられた箱が並びました。
今回つくったB5サイズの箱は自分でほしいなと
おもっていた薄いサイズでつくりました。

12 artists made boxes with different materials
at the exhibition at gallery geshi in Nagano.
I made several sizes of boxes for it.

封筒と便箋を入れて手紙用の箱にしても。

DMに使用していただいたこの箱は、学生の頃、ヨーロッパの
どこかの街の蚤の市で（どこの国かさえも忘れてしまった）
見つけた4つの引き出しのあるマッチ箱からイメージして
つくったもの。
といってもスイスの学校の箱の授業でうーんうーんと
考えてアイデアを捻り出したものなのだけれど、
そのときはすっかりそのマッチ箱のことは忘れていて、
日本に戻って実家で見つけたとき、あ、これ！と思い出した
のでした。

正方形の箱の内側に十字の仕切りをつくって、そこにぴったり
納まるサイズの小さな4つに引き出しを。今回は取手にリボンを
つけてみました。何を入れようか。入れなくてよいのかな。

製本作業でも裁縫道具と同じように針山や糸切りバサミを使います。
自宅用には陶器のペン立てに入れていますが、ワークショップで持ち歩く
ときは紙の箱に入れて持ち歩いています。

『裁縫箱』展への参加のお誘いをもらったときに最初に思い浮かんだのが
オーバルの箱。1月のippoでの展示のときに初めてつくってみました。
四角い箱ばかりのなかでちょっとテイストの違うオーバルの箱は
最後まで残っていたのですが、「え？これよくない？」と最終日に手に
取ってくれたのは御菓子丸の早陽子さん。
まだ空っぽのままお気に入りのものを入れる棚に入っていると聞きました。
それだけで嬉しい。

小さな丸い箱は針山にしても、大きいオーバルの箱には道具が一式
入ります。土台を組み立てるのがちょっと難しいのですが、布の切れ端や
針道具などを入れるのにはこの角が丸い方がいいとのツゲちゃんからの
アドバイスもあったので自分用にもつくってみようかな。

美術家の尹 煕倉は、旅人の眼でその土地、その町に
しかないものを材料にして各地の川で砂を採取し、
顔料にして絵を描いています。今回は初めて瀬戸内海を
めぐる客船「guntû」のために海の砂を採取して、
絵画「Setouchi」を描きました。

Artist Yoon Heechang collects sands from rivers
to make pigments to paint with using
the perspective of a traveler and materials unique
to the place or the town.
This time, he collected sands from around Seto
Inland Sea and drew the Setouchi landscape for
a cruise ship 'guntû' for the first time.

冊子のデザインは木村幸央さん、この本の制作に
関わった方々に渡したいと、特装の依頼を
いただきました。冊子の表紙には瀬戸内の地図が
印刷されています。印刷サンプルを頂いたので、
箱の片面と背に用いました。3冊分並べると、
関門海峡から淡路島まで、尹さんがめぐり、
そして客船guntûの航路の風景が浮かび上がり、
遠い場所からその風景を眺めているような
もうひとつの景色を見ているような箱に
仕上げました。

『Yoon Heechang Sand River Work -for guntû』
book designed by Yukio Kimura and he asked
me to make special boxes for the people involved.
I used the printing sample which printed the map
of the Seto Inland Sea for the cover of the box.
The viewers will experience the Sea where he
traveled and the routes of the cruise ship
'guntû' as if observing the self looking at
the paintings from somewhere faraway.

”Letters from Reiko 1975-1984”は、わたしの
祖母が祖父の仕事の都合で1975年から1984年の
間にアメリカに住んでいた頃、日本に暮らす
祖母の母である曽祖母に宛てた手紙を綴じ込めた
作品です。

”Letters from Reiko 1975-1984” enclosed
about 80 letters written by my grand mother
in the United States to her mother (my great
grand mother) in Japan about 40 years ago.

『エア メイル』展のためにつくった切手を入れる小さな箱。
アメリカから送られた祖母の手紙にも70年代、80年代の
アメリカらしいデザインの切手が貼られていました。
祖母が選んでいたのかな。

mini boxes for collecting stamps made for the exhibition
'AIR MAIL' I found beautiful stamps on the letters from
my grand mother in the U.S. in 1975-1984.

展覧会のDMにはこの切手を貼りました。
『手紙は羽ばたく鳥のように飛んでいくのではないかと思う
ときがある。離れ小島でも遠い外国でも、ごくさりげなく手紙が
とどく。苦労の影は少しもみせずにうれしそうに手紙は
飛んでいく』（通信文化新報　Ｈ5.7.1）
93年のふみの日切手、やなせたかしさんのデザインです。

I send postcards of our exhibition with this stamp to my friends.
It designed by Takashi Yanase in 1993,
"Letters seems like flying birds, reached it casually
even to the small island or far away country.
It seems flying happily without struggling."

つつみのことわり「包之記」の研究 / 山口信博と折形デザイン研究所
の特装の箱をつくりました。
グレーボールでつくった夫婦箱を和紙で包み、「つつみのことわり」の
本でも使用した版でタイトルをつや消しのスミで箔押ししています。

'紙花 by 具本昌' のための箱

韓国の写真家、具本昌さんの ' 紙花 ' シリーズを
納めるための特装の箱。
大きさは約540mm x 360mm、額縁の中にプリントを　
入れるような仕様にしています。

Special boxes for Korean photographer, Bohnchang Koo
which contains the series of his prints '紙花 paper flower'.
The size is approximate 540mm x 360mm, you'll see
the prints in the flame-like box.

韓国の宮中文化として伝統行事の際につくられていた '紙花_ jihwa'
ですが、いまではほとんど見かけることはないそうです。
それを貴重な文化のひとつとして伝えるために具さんとjihwa研究者の
方によって写真に残したのです。

traditional Korean paper creations- “jihwa” -were appreciated
for aesthetic values and cultural symbolism by photographer
Koo Bohnchang and jihwa researcher Kim Tae-yeon

Though mostly forgotten today and occasionally mentioned
as a genre of “hanji” (traditional paper) crafts, jihwa have held
important symbolic meanings in Korean culture, according to Kim.

タイトルは「紙花」、具さんを紹介していただいた
山口デザインの山口信博さんに活版印刷でタイトルを
つくってもらっています。

愛知、蒲郡で活動するaccessories mauさんの
企画するイベントのための箱。
初夏のさわやかなパイナップルのタルトは
nokos à l'étageののこさんがつくってくれました。
mauさんのアトリエでの初めてのイベントなので、
彼女のつくるアクセサリーをイメージして貼り紙を
選びました。

小さな丸い蓋付きの箱。
身の外側にはmonSakataのグレーの布を、
蓋には実家の倉庫で見つけた古い和紙を
貼っています。熨斗用に染められた裏側の顔料が
赤く滲み出てきれいです。

オーバルの額に切手を入れています。
パレットナイフのような画の後ろには、
メスの替え刃の包み紙を覗かせています。
フリーハンドでカットしているので、
少しいびつなオーバルになりましたが、
それもよいかなと。

looks good for it.

2001年、フランスに留学していたときに、
フランス人製本家Paule-Amlineのアトリエで
つくった小さな小さなノート。
蚤の市でみつけた糸綴じのノートを綴じ直し、
淡いグリーンの布装にしています。

A tiny notebook which I made at
Paule-Ameline la Reliure when I was
in Paris in 2001.
I found it at Marché aux Puces and
tried to re-bound it with a pale green
cloth for the cover.

あれから15年が過ぎ、あのアトリエでの
時間を思い出しながら、小さな家のような
箱をつくりました。

Fifteen years have passed since I bound
a notebook. I made a box housing for it
and it reminds me the time when I was there.

記録を残すための芳名紙の束を納めるための箱です。
箱の背にはippo plusのタイトルと、ナンバーが1から10まで
箔押しされています。サロンの度に箱に芳名紙が入り、
10個の夫婦箱が大きな箱に納められるようにしています。

穂[ippo] is a natural yeast bread bakery only and also holds
a salon [ippo-plus] and asked me to make 10 boxes for keeping
the visitor's register on every salon.
Title and the number is tooled on the back and I made
bigger box to put 10 clamshell boxes in.

東京、西麻布にある喫茶Rでの展覧会「箱展」のための作品。
オーナーの滝本さんとは製本教室に来てくださったことが縁で
知り合いました。百草での展覧会で再会して、展示のお誘いを
いただきました。

when we met at her exhibition.

普段は本や印刷物を納めるための箱をつくりますが、
蓋のある箱ならなんでもということで円筒の箱をつくりました。
中身があってつくる箱と違って、中に入れるものを想像しながら
つくるたのしみがありました。

I usually make box to store a book and printed matters.
but she ordered me to make any shape of box with lid , so I tried to
make cylindrical boxes. It was fun to imagine what to store in it.

一段目、結婚式の写真を一冊のアルバムに。
二次会の写真を納めたミニアルバムと、
招待状も小さな箱に入れています。

An album of the wedding ceremony on the left,
and mini album and reception cards are stored
in small compartments in the first box.

二段目には芳名帳を二冊。
底にくぼみをつくって納まっています。

Two guest books are in the second box.
It stored in a hollow on the bottom.

友人夫妻の結婚式のカードと芳名帳をつくらせてもらったのが2010年。
それから、アルバムをつくって、集合写真の台紙をつくって、
二次会のミニアルバムをつくって、箱にきちんと納めて、やっとやっと
ふたりの元に届けることができました。

I made wedding reception cards and guest books for my friends' wedding
ceremony in 2010. After that they ordered me photo and portrait albums
and a box to store all the stuffs in.
I finally made it in a white three stacking box.

予備校時代の先生であり、現代美術作家の栗木義夫さんの
ドローイング作品集の箱。
名古屋のgallery feel art zeroでの 'The Book as Art' 展のために
パリで描かれたドローイングをひとつにまとめたもの。

Contemporary artist Yoshio Kuriki who is my teacher
when I was high school student.
The series of drawing for the exhibition 'The Book as Art'
at gallery feel art zero in Nagoya in a box.

13枚のドローイングをひとつのシリーズとして箱に納め、
一枚を箱のカバーに、好きな一枚を選んで額に飾ります。
栗木さんの手から生まれた素朴で不思議な形がどこか
懐かしいあの頃の思い出と共に箱に納まっています。

Thirteen pieces of drawings are in a box and selected
one for the cover of the box, and one for the picture frame.
Primitive and curious figure carried me back to the days
we've spent together.

伊藤まさこさん、仁平綾さん、坂田阿希子さんによる「TERRINE
BOOK」のデザインを手掛けたcolonbooksの湯浅さんからのオーダー。
おいしいレシピと旅の写真、テリーヌにまつわる三人のエッセイが
詰まった本。
テリーヌを型から取り出すようなイメージで箱をつくりました。

Beautiful pictures has taken during their journey to Matsumoto,
Tokyo and Paris and recipes on the book.

本に載せることができなかった写真を二冊のアルバムに。
表紙と裏表紙には白いボール紙に箱と同じ紙を貼り、
イギリス製の treasury Tags で留めました。

記念の展覧会。2012年3月6日でmon Sakataは35周年を迎え、
その記念に本とmon Sakataの布や糸を一緒に納めた箱をつくりました。

special boxes for 35th anniversary of mon Sakata on 6 March,
2012. it contains a book written by mon Sakata/Toshiko Sakata
and some pieces of cloths and lints which she used for
mon Sakata collections.

「編む・つなぐ-糸のヨリミチ」とmon Sakataのコレクションのカケラを
納めた箱。蓋をあけて本を取り出すと、布や糸くずたちが箱の底にもしゃ
もしゃと現れます。一冊分の大きさのものと、25周年の記念に出版された
「Sanmarutenjiku Fit T」と二冊分の大きさのものとあり、それぞれに違う
mon Sakataのカケラを納め、それに合わせた色の紙を用いました。

mon Sakataの坂田敏子さんの依頼でつくった箱。
2009年にas it isで行われた「as it isを編む・つなぐ」坂田敏子/展で
展示されたシールドクロスやmon Sakataで使われた糸や布の欠片を
一緒に納める敏子さんのための箱。

ordered by Toshiko Sakata/mon Sakata. it contains objects from
her exhibition at museum as it is and pieces of cloth, tiny pieces of threads from mon Sakata collection and lints from the laundry machine.

重箱のように3段重ねられる箱に、洗濯くずやシールドクロスは
仕切りや箱をつくって入っています。
同じようにつくっても段差のずれがでてしまうので、同じ向きで
重ねられるようにオレンジのラインを入れました。

three containers box for each materials, tiny pieces of threads
wrapped in paper in two boxes and partitioned for threads and
laundry lints. marked the orange line to pile the containers properly.

高さの違う二冊の本をどう納めようかと悩んでいたら、
片流れ屋根の中村さんの設計する家みたいになりました。

The problem that two books with different hight was
bothered me a while. Then I noticed that a house
with one-sided roof often used by Nakamura's works.
So I made a box like his house.

グラフィックデザイナー、山口信博さんの依頼でつくった
特装の箱。山口さんがデザインした「1x1=2 二人の仕事」
その著者である澄さんのお店、petit culで山口さんが購入
したものを一緒に納めました。お店で購入した際に洗濯板が
包まれていたワックスペーパーを貼ったら、木みたいな質感に
なりました。

it contains a book '1x1=2' written by Keiichi Sumi
and Kimiko Matsuzawa and some objects he bought
at their shop 'petit cul'.

『白の消息』のための箱

箱づくりはまず土台を組み立てることから始めます。
『白の消息』、『VOU』、本に登場する山口さんの紙の
コレクション、形も大きさも異なるものを一つに
まとめるにはどうしたらよいだろう。取り出しやすさを
考えると種子袋とお札は引き出しに、横長の『VOU』を
下に、その上に『白の消息』を重ねて、指を掛けて取り
出せるように凹みをつけました。本のための家を建てた
建築家のような気分でした。

I start making the bedding of the box, this box contains
the book '白の消息', 'VOU', some old paper collections
collected by a graphic designer Nobuhiro Yamaguchi.
I tried to put the 'VOU' on the bottom, then '白の消息',
in the middle and the small papers such as German bill
and seed's bags are in the drawer on the top.
I felt like being an architect for the books.
